About

Rebecca is an experienced litigator and tax adviser in all direct and indirect taxes and judicial review, for the Public and Private Sectors.

She advises businesses, high net worth individuals and HMRC on Corporate Tax, Private Client and indirect tax matters. Rebecca started her tax career at Grant Thornton in 2001 advising owner managed businesses on a necessarily broad range of technical issues, before joining the tax department of JP Morgan Chase, where she expanded her knowledge and experience of issues relating to large corporates and high net worth individuals, and wrote a book for CCH on corporation tax (07/08). Her second text book, “Tax Avoidance”, will be in its 4th edition (Sweet & Maxwell) in Spring 2020.

She is a prolific litigator in tax and public law, having appeared unled in all courts up to the Court of Appeal for the taxpayer and for the Government. She was led in the Supreme Court for HMRC in two landmark cases: Eclipse (Malcolm Gammie QC) and Tower MCashback (Kevin Prosser QC) and is instructed by HMRC as sole counsel in ongoing cases on the Attorney General’s C-Panel. Since her appointment to the C-Panel in 2015 she has taken the opportunity to appear in judicial review cases in the High Court and Upper Tribunal, appearing for the Secretary of State in well over 100 cases, ranging from the “right to life” for asylum seekers and unlawful imprisonment, to the right to a family and private life.
